Virginia Literacy Act in Stafford Schools
The Virginia Literacy Act (VLA) is legislation focused on improving literacy outcomes for students in K-8. The legislation focuses on changes in instructional practice, assessment, and teacher preparation to align with the science of reading and evidence-based literacy instruction. Stafford Schools is excited to implement the components of Virginia Literacy to ensure that all students will have access to exceptional literacy instruction.
The Virginia Literacy Act requires the development of a division literacy plan to detail a literacy vision, the selected VDOE approved high quality instructional materials, professional learning, assessment for students, and resources for families.
